Hampton Park: Charleston, SC

One of the best built areas for walking, running, and cycling in downtown Charleston is located at Hampton Park. You can find this gem near The Citadel campus in a great residential area. The loop surrounding the park is approximately 1 mile in length and the one way street has a walking and bike lane which makes for a safe and smooth route. If you prefer the scenic route the park also has large gravel/dirt trails with various fitness stations for body weight exercises (Pull Ups are my favorite).

You can be flexible with the route, which has no elevation change and you can increase intensity of your work out by adding resistance exercises. When you increase your intensity and keep those MET’s up throughout entire session, you work in the lactic acid threshold and allow for cellular adaptation, training your organs to become more efficient in energy production and other bodily regulations during exercise. In other words, push it hard with this easy and flexible route to improve performance!
